Gloomy Sunday - Hungary, Germany Romance/Drama Like all good works
of art, this film raises questions not easily answered. As the turmoil of WW II
engulfs Hungary, a restaurant owner hires a pianist. Both men love Ilona, then
plot is further complicated when a regular customer, an SS colonel, also pursues
her. “Gloomy Sunday” was a love song, popular in prewar Europe, one version recorded
by Billy Holiday. Based loosely on real events. (A marvelous film, don’t be discouraged
